Jyväskylän yliopiston Taiteiden ja kulttuurin tutkimuksen laitoksen museologian opiskelijoiden järjestämä vuotuinen museologiaseminaari pidetään 14.–15.4.2016. Seminaari järjestetään 20. kertaa. Juhlavuoden teemana ovat kansainväliset sopimukset. Aihe kytkeytyy tämän hetken polttaviin kysymyksiin.
Maailmalla tapahtuvat aseelliset selkkaukset ja näihin liittyvä levottomuus ovat viime aikoina näkyneet myös täällä Suomessa esimerkiksi pakolaiskriisinä. Sotien runtelemilla alueilla on tapahtunut paitsi inhimillisiä tragedioita, myös tuhoutunut runsaasti kulttuurihistoriallisesti merkittävää aineistoa. Tällaisina aikoina kulttuuriperintö ja sen suojelun tarve nousevat esille. Kuinka museot vastaavat tähän liittyviin polttaviin kysymyksiin ja kuinka ne voisivat osallistua näiden aiheiden käsittelyyn näyttelyiden ja muun toiminnan kautta? Onko museoiden aika ottaa asiassa aktiivisempi ja rohkeampi rooli?
Seminaaripaikkana toimii Martti Ahtisaari -sali (Agora Auditorio 1), joka sijaitsee Agora-rakennuksessa Jyväskylän yliopiston Mattilanniemen kampusalueella.
Seminaari toteutetaan yhteistyössä ICOM:n Suomen komitean ja Suomen museoliiton kanssa. Kehyksen seminaarin puheenvuoroille luovat UNESCO:n kulttuuriperintösopimukset, erityisesti sodanaikainen kulttuuriperinnön suojelu ja siihen liittyvä Yleissopimus kulttuuriomaisuuden suojelemiseksi aseellisen selkkauksen sattuessa.

Museology students at the Department of Art and Culture studies of the University of Jyväskylä will hold their annual museology seminar 14th–15th April 2016. This year the seminar celebrates its 20th anniversary. Connected to today's burning questions, the theme of the anniversary is international conventions.
Results of armed conflicts elsewhere and unrest involved can be seen also here in Finland, eg. in the form of the refugee crisis. Not only human tragedies but also demolition of material important to cultural history have been abundant in areas ravaged by war. In times like these, cultural heritage and the protection of it come into discussion. How do museums answer to burning questions related to this topic, and how could they partake in handling these themes through exhibitions or other activity? Is is time that museums take more active and bold a role?

The seminar will take place in Martti Ahtisaari Hall (Agora Auditorium 1), located in the Agora building in the Mattilanniemi campus of the University of Jyväskylä.
The seminar is organized in cooperation with ICOM Finland and the Finnish Museums Association. UNESCO conventions for cultural heritage, especially protection of cultural heritage during wartime and the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, form the framework for the seminar.
